IRCTC has just announced a game changing update through which customers can rebook tickets without any fee. Keep reading to find out more, including eligibility criteria, how it works and more.
Eligibility Criteria
To use the new rebooking option launched by Indian Railways, passengers must meet the following requirements:
Confirmed Tickets Only: Rebooking is only possible to passengers who have confirmed tickets. Waitlisted or RAC tickets are ineligible.
Same Passenger Details: When rebooking, the passenger name and ID must be the same as the original booking.
Same Train and Class: The rebooked ticket must be for the same train and class of service.
Time Window: Rebooking must be completed within a particular time limit prior to the train's planned departure.
How It Works
The Indian Railways has implemented a streamlined process for rebooking tickets without incurring cancellation fees. Here’s a step by step guide:
Login to IRCTC or Visit Booking Counter: Passengers can rebook their tickets online through IRCTC or at specified railway counters.
Instead of cancelling, select the "Rebook" option for your confirmed ticket.
Choose a New Date or Train: Choose another date or train (subject to availability) along the same route and class.
Pay Fare Difference (if any): If the new ticket is more expensive, pay the difference. If it's cheaper, no refund is given.
Receive a New Ticket Instantly: Once rebooked, passengers will receive a new ticket with no cancellation fees deducted.
Benefits for Passengers
Indian Railways' new rebooking policy increases passenger flexibility and financial relief by allowing confirmed tickets to be rebooked without incurring cancellation costs. This allows travellers to change their plans without losing money, making last-minute changes less stressful.
It simplifies the process by removing refund delays and the inconvenience of rebooking from scratch. Whether plans change due to emergency or convenience, passengers now have a more flexible and cost-effective way to manage their trips.
