The Indian Railways is replacing its plain white blankets with breathtaking Sanganeri print blankets in some coaches. Keep reading to get all the details.

About Sanganeri Prints

Sanganeri prints are a centuries-old textile art form originating in Sanganer, a town near Jaipur in Rajasthan. These prints, known for their delicate flower designs, fine craftsmanship, and use of natural dyes, are traditionally made with hand-block printing techniques. Sanganeri print textiles were traditionally favoured by royalty and sold all over the world, serving as a symbol of India's rich artisanal legacy.

The Transformation: From Plain to Patterned

The Sanganeri Print initiative, which will debut with the Jaipur-Asarva Superfast Express, aims to address cleanliness problems and also promote regional handicrafts. If successful, it might be expanded to include the entire train network, providing passengers with a culturally enriching travel experience while also supporting local artists.

Why Sanganeri?

Sanganeri prints were chosen for their vibrant floral designs and deep cultural roots in Rajasthan. This centuries-old hand-block printing technique adds visual charm to train interiors while promoting local artisans and aligning with India’s “Vocal for Local” initiative.

Impact

Introducing Sanganeri designs inside train carriages combines tradition and travel, improving aesthetics while promoting Rajasthan's heritage. The project benefits local craftspeople, improves hygiene, and provides passengers with a culturally enriching experience, signalling a significant shift in how India travels by rail.
