A change to SBI Card's fee schedule and other fees has been announced; it will take effect on November 1, 2025. According to SBI Card's guidelines, the new fees would be applied to specific transactions such as wallet loads and payments for schooling.
In order to keep a good credit record, cardholders should constantly carefully check the updated fee schedule to make sure they are making their payments on time and to prevent any unforeseen deductions.
SBI Card Charges for Education Payments Through Third‑Party Apps
You will now incur an additional 1% fee on the total amount if you use your SBI Card to pay for educational costs (such as tuition fees) via third-party payment applications like CRED, Cheq, or MobiKwik.
Example:
If your child’s school fee is ₹50,000 and you pay it via one of these third-party apps, SBI Card will charge you an additional ₹500 (1% of ₹50,000) as a processing fee.
What SBI Card clarified?
If you pay your school, college, or university directly — either through the official website of the institution or on-site POS (Point of Sale) machines — there will be no extra 1% charge.
This means SBI is targeting payments routed through third-party platforms, not direct payments to the institution.
SBI Card Charges for Wallet Loads Above ₹1,000
SBI Card will charge a 1% fee on wallet load transactions above ₹1,000 for certain merchant categories. Similarly, a fee for education payments will apply to third‑party merchants under specific Merchant Category Codes (MCCs) such as 8211, 8220, 8241, 8244, 8249, and 8299. SBI noted that MCCs 6540 and 6541 may change at the discretion of network partners without prior notice to customers.
