Platform fees, which are additional costs you pay on top of the meal bill and delivery fee, have gone up for food delivery services like Zomato, Swiggy, and Magicpin.

Swiggy → ₹15 (inclusive of GST)

Zomato → ₹12.50 (excluding GST)

magicpin → ₹10 (already includes GST)

The government will impose an 18% GST on delivery fees as of September 22. This implies:

  • Users of Zomato will pay about ₹2 extra for each order.

  • Users of Swiggy will pay an additional ₹2.6 for each order.

Magicpin claims that since GST is already included, its users won't experience any further hardship.

Online food ordering is becoming more costly as a result of these increases, particularly prior to the holiday season. If a customer places a lot of orders, even little increases each order add up.

Platform fees are used by food delivery applications as an additional source of income.

The fact that all of the big players are raising their prices at the same time indicates that industry costs are on the rise.

It begs the question: Will meal delivery continue to seem convenient and reasonably priced over time?
