Why It's Happening
Physical copies of Aadhaar card are extremely vulnerable to fraud, loss, and theft, which can lead to data leaks that are illegal under privacy regulations. The Aadhaar Act prohibits the offline storage of numbers or biometrics, yet widespread adoption by hotels and events has resulted in abuse. By switching to digital QR verification, UIDAI has eliminated paper-based risks and strengthened user privacy under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act.
