Two terrorists were killed as the Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said on Tuesday.
Alert troops detected suspicious movement and engaged the infiltrators in a gunfight, resulting in the deaths of two terrorists. The operation is still underway.
Security forces remain on high alert along the LoC and in the hinterland to prevent infiltration before heavy snowfall closes the mountain passes. Reports suggest around 100 terrorists are waiting at launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) to cross into India.
Throughout the Union Territory, the Indian Army, security forces, and Jammu & Kashmir Police have stepped up their anti-terror efforts. By killing active terrorists and launching a crackdown on their support networks, such as overground workers (OGWs) and supporters who aid them, they hope to destroy the terror network.
The Line of Control (LoC) is protected by the Army, and the International Border (IB) is guarded by the Border Security Force (BSF).
The LoC, which stretches about 740 km, runs through areas like Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, and parts of Jammu district.
The IB, about 240 km long, passes through Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts.
Drones are increasingly being used by terrorist organizations and their Pakistani handlers to transport money, guns, ammunition, and drugs across the border in order to support terrorism in J&K. OGWs or local collaborators typically retrieve these drone drops when they land on the Indian side and deliver them to militants.
The Army and BSF have installed specialized anti-drone systems along the LoC and IB to identify and destroy drones before they can carry such payloads in order to fight this new strategy.
