DMRC Revises Metro Ticket Prices After 8 Years—Here’s What’s Changing – Fashion collection

The Delhi Metro Rail Commission, more commonly known as DMRC, recently hiked the fare for Delhi Metro rides for the first time in 8 years. Keep reading to get all the details.

Details of the Fare Hike

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has updated its pricing structure for the first time in eight years, beginning August 25, 2025. The increase goes from ₹1 to ₹4 for conventional lines and up to ₹5 for the Airport Express Line. Apart from this, discounted slabs have been introduced for Sundays and national holidays.

Impact on Commuters

  • Daily Costs Increased: Costs for regular riders increase by ₹2-₹8 per round journey, depending on distance.

  • More Monthly Burden: Long-distance commuters may incur additional monthly costs of ₹160-₹200.

  • No Concessions: Students, old citizens, and women commuters receive no fare reductions.

  • Smart Card Still Saves: Smart Card users continue to receive a 10% discount, as well as a 10% discount during off-peak hours.

  • Commuter Frustration: Riders are frustrated by growing expenses that do not equal service upgrades.

Why Now? DMRC’s Response

In an official statement, DMRC stated that the fare change was based on recommendations by the Fourth Fare Fixation Committee, which had previously recommended regular reviews to keep up with inflation and infrastructure demands.

The corporation cited rising energy prices, maintenance charges, and labour costs as the main reasons for the move. With the Delhi Metro now covering 394 kilometres and operating 289 stations across 12 corridors, including extensions into Noida and Gurugram, the financial burden of maintaining operations has increased significantly.
